If you live near woods, you know what a problem downed trees and wayward branches and brush can be. I’m fortunate enough to live in a home surrounded by 10 acres of wooded land. There’s always a tree going down after storms, or some brush and bushes that need to be pruned or taken out altogether.
For the longest time, I’d head out on these jobs with my big chainsaw and a pair of old fashioned branch loppers. One day, though, I saw a tool that really caught my eye. The Black & Decker LP1000 Alligator Lopper 4.5 amp Electric Chain Saw looked to be the perfect combination of the two tools.
The way this thing looked had me hooked from the get-go. I’m pretty much a sucker for new tools, so I decided to give this one a whirl.

There really is no other tool that I can compare the Black & Decker LP1000 Alligator Lopper to. It is something that you have to see, and use for yourself to appreciate, but the name Alligator really does sum up the look and feel of this neat electric chainsaw alternative.
The Black & Decker LP1000 is perfect for cutting back brush, lopping off branches, and cutting up small to medium sized logs. With cutting action coming from both sides, this tool makes quick work of jobs that used to be a real hassle to deal with.
There’s no other tool out there that makes small tree, limb and brush jobs easier to deal with.

Pros:
Unique innovative tool. This is a really cool tool. I’ve been working with chainsaws and other power tools my whole life. I have never seen such a unique tool for small, outdoor cutting jobs. The double cutting action is really amazing and the time this tool saves makes it worth 10 times the asking price.
Very light and easy to maneuver. Weighing just a bit over six pounds it doesn’t wear you out to use this powerful little cutter for hours.
No gas or oil to mess with. My other chainsaw is a big, gas-powered saw, the Husqvarna 450. It’s great for big jobs, and I’ve used it for years, but the Black & Decker LP1000 Alligator Lopper 4.5 amp Electric Chain Saw gives me the ability to head out to work with just an extension cord.
This saw is safe to use. Even though I’ve used chain saws a lot, they are still dangerous. The Alligator Chain Saw has double metal protection on each side. This protective guard helps to keep the chain sharp, and it keeps me protected when I am cutting.
Cons:
Takes time getting used to. Since this tool is a bit different than a standard chainsaw, it takes a little bit of getting used to. Once you do, though, it’s a breeze do use it.
The saw can sometimes get jammed when cutting brush. It’s easy enough to get it going again, but some types of brush just seem to make it jam more often than I would like to see.
This isn’t a late night infomercial tool. Don’t let the unique design fool you; Black & Decker has put together a new contender for the most useful outdoor power tool with the Black & Decker LP1000 Alligator Lopper.
For taking care of small tree cutting and branch cutting, this chain saw is one of the handiest tools around.
